Multimedia Devlopment with eZediaQTI

Have you ever hoped to develop a multimedia project that includes text, graphic, audio, and video with a professional looking background without the knowledge of web authoring or html code? Have you attended several web authoring workshops and are still intimidated by the sophistication of these tools and not able to do much with them? Would you like to use a multimedia authoring program that allows you to drag and drop graphic and videos to any location of a Web page? Would you like to create a slide show that can run automatically on its own and allow interactive point-and-click at anytime? If your answers to all of the above questions are yes, this is the workshop for you. This workshop is designed to help those who want to put digital media into a QuickTime movie or web site without spending more than one hour in learning the tool and resources.

In this session, participants will learn how to use eZediaQTI's drag-and-drop technology to create online presentation, interactive movie, and web site. eZediaQTI is a new cross-platform multimedia authoring tool (and cheap $20 for educators) to create electronic portfolio, photo gallery, student project showcase, information kiosk, yearbook, and interactive instructional materials. To find out what eZediaQTI can do for educators, sign up for this workshop or check out the web site:

Tikiwiki in the Classroom

Course management systems now exist (Moodle, for one) that attempt to take more a pedagogical approach than a management approach. But the flexibility, seamlessness, and total experience an open source content management system (Tikiwiki) provides is a useful alternative for the instructor. It is not an easy program to get to know, however, so the program will also focus on how it works.

  1. By nature of their development process and historical use, open source content management systems are not ready to use on an enterprise-level. But there are uses for the intrepid instructor who wants a total online solution for students to reflect, practice, and engage in a seamless way. Understanding Tikiwiki in this regard is the first goal.
  2. As with most open source software, documentation on Tikiwiki's administration is not comprehensive what information exists is scattered or gleaned from forums. How to use and administer Tikiwiki is goal number two.

Using technology to adapt coursework to diverse levels of learning

Technology is our friend as we look at adapting delivery of instruction and assessment to varied student ability levels. Through online instruction embedded in normal coursework, students can be shown both the “big picture” and the detailed steps necessary to complete a larger assignment or project. Faculty responses can be built into periodic checkpoints that offer students valuable feedback in a timely and individual fashion. The result? Final products show a higher level of student learning and accomplishment.

  1. Participants will become familiar with a set of narrated PowerPoint online modules designed to improve course instruction through independent, user-friendly, course embedded assessment strategies and tools.
  2. Participants will learn how to create narrated presentations to be used as a delivery tool for their own projects and assignments.

Technology Primer: What's Out There?

Join us for a "Technology Primer: What's Out There?" hands-on workshop offered by CSC's McGlynn Computer and Technology Center staff.

Topics and activities include the following classroom technology: using flash drives, creating PDFs, streaming powerpoints with Impatica, burning CDs & DVDs, creating audio clips, scanning text & graphics, using digital cameras (still, short clips, webcams, Zire72 PalmOne videos), and editing video with iMovie. We may even have time to test drive SonicFoundry's MediaSite webcasting setup. Our focus will be (as much as possible) on generic classroom technology--with an eye toward what may be out there on YOUR campus.
