Keynotes:

Morning Keynote: "Learner-Centered Learning,"
is the third in our recent sequence ("Learner-Centered Teaching"; "Learner-Centered Architecture").  University of St. Thomas IRT Web developer and COTF co-founder Joe Landsberger will offer the first address based upon his study of learner attributes in conjunction with his Web site "Study Guides and Strategies" and in the development of a Web-based learner self-assessment survey (in process).

Afternoon Keynote: "Applications of Gaming to Learning."
Presented by Dr. Kurt Squire, an assistant professor in educational communications and technology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Visiting Research Fellow at MIT.

Squire earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University in Instructional Systems Technology; his dissertation focused on how playing Civilization III mediated students' understandings of social studies. For the past two years, Squire has been instrumental in shaping the vision and research for MIT's Games-to-Teach Project and The Education Arcade. In 2000, Squire also co-founded joystick101.org, a Web community studying game culture.
