Keynote speaker:

Stanley R. Trollip, PhD

Designing effective online learning environments –
the tension between theory and practice

Dr. Trollip's talk has two main threads and a knot:

"The first thread deals with the three major instructional design philosophies that have emerged over the past half century - behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism – and examines why each evoked both great passion and strong resistance.

The second thread examines the reality of designing online environments, specifically addressing the constraints of time, money, and resources.

Finally, the knot ties the two threads together, proposing an approach to designing online learning environments that directly addresses this tension between theory and practice rather than avoiding it as so often happens.  The approach is effective and practical, whether in traditional or virtual settings, and maximizes the chances that learning will take place."
